The next phase of the Attack on Titan anime will be a third part to the final season.

The official Twitter account announced at 00:30 JST that there will be a 2023 follow-up to this season of Attack on Titan: The Final SeasonThe Final Season Final Edition. This announcement has quelled fan speculation regarding the future of the series, and has emblazoned fans globally who are ready for the adaptation of what may be the remainder of the outstanding plot.

The official account, @anime_shingeki, posted the tweet as soon as the final episode of the current season came to a close. The tweet, upon translation, reads:

'TV Anime "Attack on Titan: The Final Season Final Edition" Broadcast in 2023 on NHK General TV! The announcement video has been released!'

The tweet has finally answered a question fans have been asking since the trajectory of the current season became apparent, and it was made even clearer how close to the end the series really is.

The final season of Attack on Titan began airing in 2021, with a change in studio from WIT Studio, which handled the first three seasons of the series, to Studio MAPPA. The Final Season Part 2, which completed its run on April 3, began airing in January 2021 as the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021's release. However, with this news, fans of the series are now aware of the intentions of MAPPA with regard to their adaptation of the Attack on Titan manga.

The Attack on Titan manga by Isayama Hajime was published by Kodansha Comics and ran for 34 volumes across nine years from 2012 to 2021. The anime series so far has covered the story from volumes 1 to 33, adapting roughly 134 chapters of content out of a possible 139. That means that the following season, Attack on Titan: The Final Season Final Edition will probably be the series' last. Fans will be relieved to know that they won't be left out in the dust craving a conclusion to this critically acclaimed mega-hit series, and they can rest assured knowing that this incredible journey will come to a conclusive end.
