A new discovery hints that Batman: Arkham City sold over 12 million units in only its first year, and made over a half a billion dollars.

p>The last reported sales figures for Batman: Arkham City — the second game in the Batman: Arkham series — came out over eight years ago, and it stated that the game generated a little over four and a half million dollars within its first week. Within its first four months of release, the game sold over six million units, meaning it generated around 360 million dollars within that time.

A more recent report of the game's figures shows that the number of units sold doubled by the end of the year, and the revenue the game generated nearly did too. According to the update, Batman: Arkham City sold over 12 million units in only its first year, and as a result, it generated over a half a billion dollars in revenue.

Unlike the original figures, however, the news doesn't come from any sort of financial report. Instead, it comes from a LinkedIn profile belonging to a former global franchise marketing manager who worked for Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment during Arkham City's first year. A Twitter user by the name of bogoradrad222 happened to stumble upon the profile and shared it with the internet.

The marketing manager states they worked on Batman: Arkham City, and that by 2012, the game sold 12.5 million units, and generated around 600 million dollars in revenue. To say that's a lot is putting it lightly, and the only reason the game didn't make more money is probably due to price drops in its later months.

With numbers like that, its no wonder the Arkham series spawned two more sequels. Sales-wise, Batman: Arkham Knight — the latest game in the series — seemingly did even better than Arkham City, selling over 5 million units within its first four months, which allowed it to become the fastest-selling title in the Arkham series.

It's been five years since Arkham Knight released, and there haven't been any official confirmations of a sequel being in development. Still, considering how well the game did, it's hard to imagine that Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment will drop the series.

And while there haven't been any official statements for another main installment in the Arkham series, there have been credible rumors of a new Batman title. The next entry will supposedly be called BatmanArkham Legacy, or Batman Arkham 2020, and instead of focusing on Bruce Wayne and Batman, it will focus on members of the Bat-family, such as Dick Greyson's Nightwing and Barbra Gordon's Batgirl. A decision like this would make sense considering the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight.
