Players have the choice to begin LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with any movie they choose, but it should be either Episode 1 or Episode 4.

p>LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is not out in the wild, launching to warm reviews from critics. It’s not free of its faults or criticisms, but the general reception suggests that it was worth the wait. Now, the very first thing players do after starting up LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is make a very important decision.

One of the best quality of life features for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the ability to play through the movies in any order. Players have to beat the movie prior to them, and they can theoretically jump around after that, but they have to begin with either Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 4: A New Hope, or Episode 7: The Force Awakens. There are really a couple of ways to go about this, but beginning with Episode 7 is an absolutely Chaotic Evil, Sith-like decision.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Choose Episode 1, Episode 4, or Episode 7

There are certainly a couple of ways to go about this. Many may choose to begin with Episode 1 or Episode 4, and that’s certainly justifiable from a certain point of view. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga players essentially choose movie order, if they begin with Episode 4. This would allow them to live out Luke Skywalker’s story, return to Episode 1 for Anakin’s story, and then continue on with Episode 7. If they begin with Episode 1, then they’ll be playing in chronological order through the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies.

Many will likely prefer one over the other, which may also speak to their personal Star Wars experience. If looked at in terms of a Dungeons and Dragons alignment, then both of these choices would likely fall into a Lawful Neutral-adjacent area. For these types of characters, the law is the law and order is order—with no moral impact. There are two potential orders here, movie or chronological, and both are viable.

However, to begin LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with Episode 7: The Force Awakens is a clearly chaotic evil decision. Chaotic Evil Dungeons and Dragons characters have no respect for rules (or movie orders), other people’s lives (Luke’s before the sequel trilogy), push their own freedom (to even choose this movie to begin with) while dismissing other’s freedoms.

To play the Sequel Trilogy in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga before experiencing Anakin’s and Luke’s stories would mean to throw all order of the saga out the window—not to mention, the entire sequel trilogy builds off the first two movies and so none of that is paid its proper respects in this order. The only thing simply more Chaotic Evil would be to begin with Episode 7 and then randomly jump around, which is painful to even think about

Nonetheless, the Light and Dark Side choice here is ultimately good for the game. There will always be a debate on the best viewing order for Star Wars, on whether it should be chronological or movie order. Toss in the Disney Plus shows and other Star Wars media, and it balloons into an even bigger debate. For now, at least, these don’t appear in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Allowing fans to explore in the order of their choosing bodes well for replayability, first exposure to these levels, and their first overall impressions. Naturally, this means the Dark Side choice to begin with Episode 7 is an understandable result. Players should be aware, however, that this is a pathway to abilities some consider to be unnatural.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
