Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED reveals how different character creation options will affect gameplay and open up new ways to get through missions.

p>Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz reveals how the decisions that players make with character creation will affect gameplay and their character's skills. The developer also shares more information about the character "lifepaths," which are origin stories that have different starting locations.

In a video posted to the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter page, Tomaszkiewicz explained that character skills don't just affect how a player can take down an enemy. Players can "use these skills to discover different paths through the levels, to discover different options in quests," said the developer. These skills can be modified as players go through the game, explained Tomaszkiewicz, who also said that there would be a "big variety of different skills" to choose from.

Another part of Cyberpunk 2077's character creation that affects gameplay is its lifepaths. Lifepaths, or character origin stories, are chosen at the beginning of the game. There are three to choose from, called Corporate, Street Kid, and Nomad. As well as giving players a different starting mission to enjoy, the various lifepaths offer perks when speaking to different groups. Cyberpunk 2077 players who choose the Street Kid lifepath will "have an easier time talking to different gangs," while players who've chosen Corporate may "have an advantage over people from the corporations, since you know how they think and how they operate."

In the first gameplay video for Cyberpunk 2077, which was revealed at Gamescom 2018, fans saw the player character trying to lie to a member of a corporation and quickly being found out. Tomaszkiewicz hasn't shared many details about how the lifepath perks work, but it seems as though they could help players out in conversations like these.

What Tomaszkiewicz is talking about is just one way that CD Projekt RED is making Cyberpunk 2077 a very replayable game. The developer has also spoken about the "wide range" of weapons and weapon types that are in the game, so players could potentially have dozens of ways, if not more, of taking down the same group of enemies.

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that there will be many side missions too, and that, like in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077's side quests will feel like "complete" stories. That all suggests that it will take players hundreds of hours, if not more, to see everything in the game. However, as fans have been waiting more than five years to play the sci-fi RPG, that's what many players will be looking for.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
