CD Projekt RED confirms that it will be delaying Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer and DLC expansions after delaying the game's release date.

p>CD Projekt RED confirms that it has also delayed the release of Cyberpunk 2077's online multiplayer feature. The news follows the announcement that the Cyberpunk 2077 release date has been delayed, making it the second delay to hit the game this year.

In a conference call, the developer's vice president of business development, Michał Nowakowski, said that any post-launch content for Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed. The game's DLC expansions will be "proportionately" moved because of the release date delay, as will Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer. Nowakowski said that Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer is "a bit more distant" and that "it’s a matter for the future" meaning that the delay will only add to that wait.

CD Projekt RED had said that Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer will not be released before 2022. It seems that any DLC expansions, the number of which CD Projekt RED hasn't confirmed, will take priority. It's also possible that any issues that crop up with the game after release, such as bugs and development issues with that DLC, could lead to the multiplayer being kicked further down the line.

The developer hasn't officially stated what Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer will look like. There have been many rumors though with a 2017 leak suggesting that the game would feature a multiplayer social hub, allowing players to get together in areas like nightclubs and play mini-games together. The veracity of this leak has been questioned as CD Projekt RED said in 2019 that multiplayer isn't in development, but the idea of a social hub did seem to be popular with fans.

Something the developer has confirmed is that Cyberpunk 2077 will not have any microtransactions. CD Projekt RED has gone back on its word before, once promising that developers wouldn't have to crunch before changing its mind less than six months later. However, as CD Projekt RED has spoken out against microtransactions and loot boxes several times, it would be surprising to see them in Cyberpunk 2077.

Many fans will be disappointed by the delay to the post-launch content, but it seems that there will be plenty for Cyberpunk 2077 players to do while they wait for any DLC to be released. In 2018, CD Projekt RED confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077's side missions would feel like complete stories and will likely take players a huge amount of time to complete.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
