Directed by Souls veteran Hidetaka Miyazaki and written in collaboration with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, Elden Ring tells the story of the Tarnished, exiled beings who have been summoned back to the realm known as the Land Between to defeat a great evil and to collect the Great Runes, shattered pieces of a relic known as the Elden Ring, and ancient artifact that holds great power over the world. Elden Ring was announced at E3 2019, but was shrouded in mystery after its initial reveal.
The character creation system has been used in previous games by FromSoftware such as Bloodborne and Sekiro, allowing players to customize their character to their liking that they could then use to take out into the world. Elden Ring players have already managed to pull off incredible feats with the system, by recreating famous characters and icons, whether it be Star Wars’ Darth Maul, or SpongeBob SquarePants’ “Handsome Squidward” meme.
In a post on Reddit’s r/Eldenring, user Ponaz showcases their most recent creation using the system, that being of actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The post currently sits with 98% upvotes from viewers praising the user for their very accurate depiction of the actor, who is set to appear next in Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
There have been incredibly detailed creations made in Elden Ring thus far, but it's quite impressive to see the staggering amount of preciseness on display with this showcase. Cumberbatch is known for having distinct facial features, thus it makes for a very stunning piece of work to see someone use the tools the game allows in order to create something remarkable.
So far, reviews for Elden Ring have been mostly focused on the game’s art design and improvement of the FormSoftware formula regarding the challenging but rewarding gameplay and combat mechanics. Players are still creating new characters in the creation system that are sure to be just as impressive as the ones that have come before.
Elden Ring is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
