In a recent replay of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, one fan notices a pretty interesting detail about the mayor's house.

p>It’s been quite some time since Naughty Dog touched the Jak and Daxter IP, but for many, it’s still the definitive Naughty Dog title. The franchise has a ton of fans, and the first one is often hailed as one of the many classic platformers of the time. There have been rumblings about a Jak and Daxter movie, but otherwise, the franchise has stalled.

Of course, just because there aren’t new Jak and Daxter games releasing, that doesn’t mean fans aren’t playing them. One fan, playing through Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, recently noticed an interesting detail regarding the mayor’s house early in the game.

Jak and Daxter’s Mayor House

Redditor idiahs recently pointed out that the mayor’s house is the only one in the village with bricks, while the rest of the huts are made of clay. One Redditor added the comment that this gave him major Baron Praxis vibes, while others were also quick to point out how elaborate Samos the Sage’s hut was. Many, including idiahs, also joked about knowing where all the Precursor Orbs given to the mayor were going.

However, many also come to the mayor’s defense, pointing out a couple of reasons this one house has brick. First is that is also supports a windmill and that would obviously require a stronger structure. It would be devastating if it fell. Others also point out that, while this does seem to be the mayor’s house, it also seems to be the village’s town hall. It may be odd to imagine a mayor living in a town hall, but stranger things certainly happen in the franchise.

Indeed, little details like this can be found throughout Jak and Daxter, as well as the following mainline games. Jak X: Combat Racing, as well as Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, have little details like this that make the early game feel like a living game. This living world approach is nothing new to games, but Jak and Daxter no doubt used this well. There’s a major shift, too, from Jak and Daxter to Jak 2, with the latter’s world being filled with people and their unusual lives.

Fun, little details don’t make an entire game of course, but if Jak and Daxter was ever rebooted, it would be things like this that help set it apart. It seems unlikely, but there will also be hope for a new Jak and Daxter game even though ND confirmed it wasn't working on one.

The Jak and Daxter Bundle is available on PS4.
