LEGO's Mario sets could be adding Luigi soon, with a firmware update making the interactive Mario figure call out for his brother.

p>Last year, players were treated to one of LEGO's biggest crossovers to date, as the seminal children's toy brand embraced the world of Super Mario. The tie-in produced several sets based on the character's most iconic adventures, whether that was adapting one of his countless battles against Bowser Jr. or adding a cat power-up costume identical to those first seen in Super Mario 3D World.

It seems the next addition to LEGO's Super Mario sets could reunite the mustached plumber with a familiar face, as updating the LEGO Mario figure's firmware now makes him call out for Luigi. First spotted by Eurogamer, the new line of dialogue was shared in a video by Twitter user Jay Phoenix, who revealed that the electronic figure now repeats its brother's name.

According to Phoenix, they first came across the line while accessing the toy's new firmware update. Those who have updated the figure can apparently coax the line by placing Mario on his back, waiting a few minutes, and then putting him back on his feet. If the new dialogue wasn't a clear enough sign that Luigi will soon feature in a LEGO Mario set, the video was later commented on by LEGO itself, with the company's official Facebook account responding to the clip. The reply read: "That's a very creative way to get his missing brother. We did notice that LEGO Mario has started calling for him, we're looking into it and hope to have clarity on why this is soon. Stay tuned."

It all but confirms that Luigi is ready to be immortalized in LEGO, hopefully with a new set based around the iconic character's array of adventures. Speculation has already suggested he could arrive via a Luigi's Mansion set or maybe that LEGO will include him in some sort of cooperative-focused pack, allowing two players to complete LEGO Mario's interactive, hand-built courses simultaneously. Regardless, it's great to hear that LEGO fans might be able to add Luigi to their collection very soon.

For those who haven't followed LEGO's collaboration with Mario, it's definitely taken a different approach in comparison to the brand's previous video game crossovers. Instead of just functioning as a standard LEGO set, the Mario line allows players to create courses and tackle them using an interactive Mario figure with in-built sensors, gyroscopes, speakers, and screens.

It means the mascot can collect coins, stomp on Goombas, and grab the goal pole with sounds to match his efforts, making every set into an interactive Super Mario level that can be played and customized. It was a huge success at release, making for a unique LEGO product and a tantalizing piece of Mario merchandise.
