First base is a fun position to play, getting in on lots of defensive plays and at-bats in big moments. But not every team has an opening there.

p>It's odd that third base is considered the hot corner when first base effectively gets more action. Not only do they deal with the same drives, but first basemen in MLB The Show 22 are also in on every double play, ground out, and bunt.

For players that love the action of defense, that's a big selling point. At the plate, things only get better as first basemen have an inclination for huge power. Not every team needs a first baseman in MLB The Show 22, but the ones that do will give gamers a career to be proud of.

Oakland Athletics

  • Need to beat a 65 OVR

If the goal is to get called up as fast as possible, there is no better position than first base with the Oakland Athletics. There is no starter with a lower OVR at any position on any team. Currently, their highest-rated first baseman is in single-A ball.

The downside, of course, is that this is the Athletics. They are the lowest-ranked team in the game. It's a trade-off, but for gamers who want to be the center of attention, there is no better spot. Don't be afraid to get to the MLB fast and, after playing for a few years, request a trade.

Tampa Bay Rays

  • Need to beat a 68 OVR

The Rays are an excellent landing point for a first baseman. Of the teams with poor first basemen, none of them have a more complete pitching staff than Tampa Bay. For the rest of the position players, none of them are less than 74.

The OVR is so low that players will only need to wear a few pieces of gear to get the call up to the big leagues in year one. And the team will immediately compete for a title, barring injuries to the starters. They're truly waiting for a first baseman to round them out.

Cleveland Guardians

  • Need to beat a 70 OVR

Given that every other position player is a 74 OVR or higher, this is a similar situation to the Tampa Bay Rays. This is a team that will need to have a starter change positions regularly unless they have somebody bail them out. The player's character will do suitably well.

Unlike the Rays, the Guardians don't quite have a strong starting rotation for pitchers. This means they'll find themselves in a slugfest, needing to put a lot of runs up, and they'll do anything to make that happen. It means more at-bats in clutch situations, which should appeal to most gamers.

Pittsburgh Pirates

  • Need to beat a 68 OVR

The pirates are only a slightly upgraded version of the Athletics. They're ranked close to last in many categories and first base isn't the only area where they need help. So why would anybody consider going to the Pirates instead?

Don't sleep on PNC Park, regularly listed as one of the most beautiful ballparks in the country. Not only is it pretty, but it's also got ravenous fans that deserve something to cheer for. The gold and black are looking for the next big thing and the player's first baseman could be it.

Arizona Diamondbacks

  • Need to beat a 71 OVR

The Diamondbacks are the toughest team to get into on this like. It might take some extra gear and another year in the minors, but the payoff is great. Their next lowest position player is 75, meaning all of their main position players are above average.

This is a team that, with a first baseman, can have a say if their division rival Dodgers or Giants even make the playoffs. Considering these are some of the best teams in baseball, that's a pretty big say. The best like to play against the best and the Diamondbacks are a smart (if unlikely) team to do that.

MLB The Show 22 was released on April 5th, 2022, and is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5.
