One Piece's 1036th chapter looks like it'll be one of the series' most significant. Here's what readers can expect from the upcoming entry.

p>One Piece's Wano Country arc is finally heading towards its end after over 3 years of following the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in the land of Samurai. The Onigashima Raid, where Luffy and Kaido face-off against one another, is already underway and the majority of the war is already over. Although the Pirate-Ninja-Mink-Samurai Alliance started on the back foot, they've been making great progress slowly and last week's chapter saw another big combatant on the side of the Beasts Pirates fall. With One Piece Chapter 1036 approaching fast, it is time for the main fight to finally begin.

Last week's One Piece chapter saw Zoro fight against King to the best of his abilities. By tapping into the maximum power offered by Enma, Zoro was finally able to fight back against King. Immediately after he figured out a way to get past King's defenses, Zoro was able to get a couple of powerful blows in and defeat him by using "Dragon Damnation," a technique that drew parallels to Shimotsuki Ryuma, who slew a dragon over the Flower Capital years ago. With Zoro's fight having wrapped up, fans now turn to One Piece 1036 and the expectations for the upcoming chapter are high.

What To Expect From One Piece Chapter 1036

It is quite clear to see that the Beasts Pirates are losing the war despite being quite powerful. Luck appears to favor the alliance and their skill is simply too great for the likes of the Beasts Pirates to compete with at the moment. Previously, fans saw Sanji deal with Queen, one of Kaido's right-hand men without too much trouble and send him flying. Now, Kaido's strongest subordinate, King, has also been defeated, which means the story will now be heading towards the main event which everyone has been waiting for — Luffy's fight against Kaido.

Almost every fight on Onigashima has already wrapped up, with the exception of Raizo vs. Fukurokuju, X Drake and Apoo vs. the CP0, Kid, and Law vs. Big Mom, and finally Luffy vs. Kaido. It is highly likely that the next chapter is going to shed some light on some of these fights. Raizo's encounter with Fukurokuju has lasted surprisingly longer and it wouldn't be a surprise for Oda to wrap up this one in a page or two in the next One Piece chapter.

The biggest fights that are left are the ones that involve the Yonko and the Worst Generation. Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid are doing their utmost best to take Big Mom down, however, being a Yonko worth 4,388,000,000 berries just goes to show that she is a monstrous fighter. Even if Law and Kid have awakened their Devil Fruits, they certainly need more to take Big Mom down. Possibly, fans could get a clearer idea of how the battle has been going since Big Mom powered up with her souls.

Most importantly, One Piece chapter 1036 will likely give the fans glimpses of Luffy's fight against Kaido. Since Luffy returned to the rooftop of Onigashima, Oda has focused very little on the fight, likely due to the fact that he wanted to wrap up the rest of the fights first. Now that the majority of the fights are done, fans could finally see how Luffy has been faring against the strongest pirate alive, Kaido.

One Piece 1036: The Climax Of The Onigashima War

Although the Wano Country arc has been going on for quite a long time already, it is clearly going to wrap up in 2022, having already entered its final phase earlier this year. The Onigashima Raid is finally close to ending and with the Worst Generation's victory in their respective fights, the Raid can be declared a success. Of course, the task at hand is quite a difficult one but given that everyone else has won their fights, it is expected for Luffy to defeat Kaido as well.

The Onigashima Raid draws parallels to the Enies Lobby arc of One Piece where the Straw Hat Pirates fought the CP9 and eventually overcame them. Given that Oda loves to draw parallels to pre-timeskip, it is possible that Luffy's fight against Kaido will mirror his fight against Rob Lucci. At the same time, fans should also note that just like in Enies Lobby, both Sanji and Zoro got their big power-ups in the arc. In Wano, while Sanji awakened the power of Ifrit Jambe, Zoro tapped into the power of the King of Hell Three Sword Style. Interestingly, this would mean that Luffy is due to get a new power-up as well.

Although he already has the massive power of Gear Fourth up his sleeve along with the ability to use advanced Armament Haki coupled with advanced Conqueror's Haki, it is still not enough to take down the Yonko worth 4,611,100,000 berries. At some point in the fight, Luffy will likely awaken a completely new power.

For now, the focus lies mainly on the Worst Generation, and with each passing chapter, the Wano Country arc heads towards its end. One Piece chapter 1036 will likely mark the beginning of the end of the Wano Country arc as the main fights begin. Unfortunately, the One Piece manga is on break this week, along with the rest of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

One Piece 1036 is due to release on January 2, 2022.
