In a move which could be said to be mocking the deficit that's plaguing the tech world, a fan of Skyrim adds an RTX 3080 into the city of Whiterun.

p>Although The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can be quite a serious game, with its expansive lore and violent conflict, not to mention the racial politics that runs throughout the game's world, there are times when fans can get a bit silly with it. Such examples of this include the modder who changed the name of all the Frost Trolls to Tim Allen, for seemingly no reason. Now, another fan has taken liberties with modding tools to perhaps make a statement about something that is currently affecting the tech and gaming world in real life.

Uploading the small file to Nexus Mods a few days ago, a modder who goes by the username MobinWeekend has decided to use Skyrim to let players get their hands on something that is practically unobtainable in reality right now. Specifically, what they've done is add an Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card into the game. A single screenshot on the mod page shows the GPU sitting peacefully on the edge of a public well in the city of Whiterun.

MobinWeekend says on the description page that their mod allows players to have their own 3080 in Skyrim, insisting players forget about the "promise of a 3070 Ti" that's apparently been touted by Nexus. For those who have not been keeping up with graphics card news, the world is currently experiencing a huge deficit due to semiconductor shortages and bots bulk buying hardware for cryptomining. It's become such an issue that Nvidia products like the 3080 Ti are selling out almost immediately, making it very difficult for many to get hold of.

So while gamers can't buy an RTX 3080, or any new gaming hardware in fact, in the real world, MobinWeekend's mod will at least allow players to have one in a fictional realm while AMD and Nvidia products remain out of reach for at least another year. The only thing that's not known about the mod until it's installed is whether players will be able to pick up or interact with the graphics card once they discover it.

Whatever the case, it's an amusing solution to a real world issue. With rumors of Nvidia beginning to develop its 4000 series, it remains to be seen whether the shortages will still be raging on once the tech industry hits the next generation. If there are still issues by then, maybe MobinWeekend or some other modder will be able to allow fans to hold new products in Skyrim or even the next Elder Scrolls game.

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on November 11.
