Facebook allegedly signs a deal with Ubisoft to bring the major gaming franchises Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell to virtual reality for the first time.

p>Facebook is a massive company that has arguably dominated social media and more than dabbled in gaming, creating several VR headsets over the years. According to a new report, Facebook wants to take its gaming side of the business to a new level, and has accordingly penned deals to bring Assasssin's Creed and Splinter Cell to VR for the first time.

Facebook has been putting more money and time into expanding into gaming, and allegedly, it now appears that the company is taking one more leap. According to the report from The Information, Facebook wants to add known, popular game franchise VR experiences to encourage players to try out the Oculus line of VR headsets. Gamers who like the franchises and haven't yet tried out VR may decide to make the leap with these additions. The deal struck with Ubisoft is being headed by the Vice President of Special Gaming Initiatives, but Facebook CEO Zuckerberg is said to be 'personally involved,' as well.

Until Facebook or Ubisoft decide to make an official announcement, it can't be said for certain if these will be fully brand-new games, experiences, or even remakes of prior Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell titles. It will also be interesting to see if the iconic dives off of buildings in Assassin's Creed pose a problem for VR gamers, as many players struggle with motion sickness while experiencing virtual reality.

While VR headsets like the Valve Index prioritize visuals and thus require being hooked up to a computer, the Oculus Quest is completely wireless, allowing players to move more freely. As a result, the visual capabilities of the Quest aren't on-par with the higher-end VR headsets. It remains to be seen if the Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell VR games will be made with these restrictions in mind.

While Facebook has been a platform for massive gaming hits like Candy Crush and FarmVille, it hasn't had any extreme breakout game hits of its own. Even so, the company has had significant success with its VR headsets, especially with the most recent one, the Oculus Quest, which quickly sold out across multiple retailers after being released.
