The 10 Biggest Xbox Series X Game File Sizes (& How Many GB They Take)

So, next-gen gaming is massive—obviously, right? But how massive? Let’s talk about the biggest games on Xbox Series X in terms of file size because, spoiler alert, some of these are wild!

The new consoles, both Xbox Series X and PS5, promised us all sorts of cool stuff—better graphics, smoother performance. But what nobody really talks about is the amount of hard drive space these monsters demand. And when you’re working with around 800GB on the Series X, every gig counts.

Like with the PS4 and Xbox One, we’ve still got the same issue: limited storage. Game sizes aren’t getting any smaller either. And with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 not even fully out yet but already dropping file sizes, it’s got us thinking: what are the biggest space hogs on the Series X?

Let’s take a look:

10. The Witcher 3 (~40.04 GB)

An absolute legend of open-world games. Even years after release, The Witcher 3 still pulls in new fans, and for a good reason! But, with all the DLCs and that massive world, you’re looking at around 40 GB of space on your Series X. Worth it, though. Plus, no load screens during fast travel? Yes, please!

9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (~45 GB)

Vikings, amazing water physics, Eivor kicking butt—it’s all there. With graphics that include insane fur textures and more, it’s no surprise it eats up 45GB of your hard drive. But for any Assassin’s Creed fan, that’s a solid tradeoff.

8. Sea of Thieves (~47 GB)

Set sail with your pirate crew! Sea of Thieves has only gotten better with time, adding pets and all kinds of fun stuff. On Series X, it takes up 47GB, which is a lot more than on the Series S, but totally worth it for some couch co-op sessions with your friends.

7. FIFA 21 (~50 GB)

If you’re into football (or soccer, depending on where you’re from), FIFA 21 takes up 50GB. Not too crazy compared to others on this list, but still something to think about before installing.

6. Gears 5 (~64 GB)

Here’s one for the Gears fans. Gears 5 got a facelift on Series X with smoother FPS and even Dave Bautista voicing Marcus Fenix if you want that option. It takes up 64GB, but that’s for all the extra goodies that come with the new-gen upgrade.

5. Destiny 2: Beyond Light (~65.7 GB)

Even with the ups and downs Bungie’s had, Destiny 2 keeps delivering solid gunplay. The latest expansion, Beyond Light, is taking up almost 66GB, and that’s without all the upcoming updates, which will no doubt make it even bigger.

4. Cyberpunk 2077 (~70 GB)

The hype for Cyberpunk 2077 is off the charts, even with all the delays. It’s sitting at about 70GB, and if it lives up to even half the hype, it’ll be one of the best ways to fill your hard drive.

3. Dirt 5 (~72.5 GB)

Racing games might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Dirt 5 is a stunner, both visually and in gameplay. It takes up 72.5GB on Series X and offers all kinds of cars, tracks, and modes to mess around with. You’ll need some space, but hey, it’s a great game to have.

2. NBA 2K21 (~121.7 GB)

Now, here’s where things start getting hefty. NBA 2K21 is not without its flaws (looking at you, unskippable ads), but on the Series X, it’ll take up 121GB. And if you’re on PS5, yikes, it’s 150GB!

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (~190 GB)

Finally, the behemoth. Call of Duty games have always been storage nightmares, but Black Ops Cold War takes the cake at a jaw-dropping 190GB. That’s almost a quarter of your total Series X space for one game. It better be good, right?

So yeah, next-gen gaming comes with stunning visuals and immersive worlds—but also a serious demand for storage. If you’re grabbing any of these titles, be prepared to make some space. Time to upgrade those hard drives!
