User Mattski123 has uploaded a mod for the Special Edition of Skyrim which pretty much turns it into a settlement building RTS game. The port is based on the mod created by Mattski123. Essentially, using the mod, players can build a house, or even an entire village using dynamically placed objects. They can also recruit other villagers and/or merchants, as well as add plants and furniture. The original description says there are also "random bandit raids" and "animal attacks." It should be pointed out that building is not free, and users will need to use gold or firewood to pay for builds.
Skyrim has a ton of interesting mods, and this one in particular suggests that players download and install the "Flat Island" mod, which is an add-on that incorporates an island with a flat terrain, which makes it suitable for an RTX-style village building simulator. For a game that is generally about battling dragons, learning magic, and exploring a vast and open world, it's interesting to see people turning elements of it into something different, mixing up the genres to keep things fresh.
Considering Skyrim is a video game with an immersive open world, the decade old release is still showing signs of longevity. The modding community is simply teeming with fans who are keen to switch things up a bit. Mods that come along can do so much for this, or any, game, such as adding new content, improving the visuals, converting the vanilla experience entirely, or even just fixing bugs that the official developer has seemingly missed.
As for the future of the Elder Scrolls series, many are growing a little impatient about when the next installment will get announced, let alone released. With Bethesda launching its sci-fi title Starfield this year, there's hope on the horizon that the next game in the studio's epic series will not be far behind. For now, fans can still get to grips with all the different ways that modders have changed Skyrim.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
