Epic Games announces its next State of Unreal, where Unreal Engine developers will discuss The Matrix Awakens and other adjacent topics.

p>While the modern iterations of Epic Games' Unreal Engine may not be quite as pervasive and ever-present as Unreal Engine 3 was back in the 2000s, this game development suite remains one of the most popular choices for developers from all over the world. In fact, its next version, Unreal Engine 5, may be getting an exciting new showcase early in April.

Epic Games has just announced its major new Unreal Engine event that's going to be open for anyone to tune in and watch. The exact nature of the said event is still a bit unclear, though it's coming up in just a few short days, and it has a rather impressive list of speakers already announced and accounted for.

Coming just a few short weeks after Unity Engine's incredibly life-like character showcase, Epic Games' next so-called State of Unreal broadcast is bound to attempt to take some of Unity's thunder. The broadcast is slated for April 5th, and its speakers include Tim Sweeney himself, as well as some of the developers responsible for The Matrix Awakens, which is one of the most impressive playable engine demos ever assembled.

Aside from general discussions about Unreal Engine and a tidbit on its early content creation pipeline at the end, the console-exclusive UE5 demo The Matrix Awakens will be the star of the show. The first presentation will talk about Awakens' procedural content production and open-world workflows, while the second will discuss procedural cityscape generation and technical challenges that arose from this undertaking.

The list of games confirmed to be using Unreal Engine 5 is already rather hefty, and includes eagerly awaited titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, ArcheAge 2, Redfall, and, of course, Fortnite. The lessons learned during the production of The Matrix Awakens are sure to be applied to at least some upcoming UE5 projects, and the technology has the potential to change game development at large.

In other, potentially related news, Epic Games recently acquired Bandcamp and may be looking to integrate its services into Unreal Engine or the UE Marketplace in some way. The fact that Sweeney and his team of developers will present some Unreal-related news before The Matrix Awakens discussions means that there may be some general announcement coming along, though it's anyone's guess what that might be at this point.
